The Conference also included a number of literary-cultural events. The most prominent was a literary evening at Ljubjlana Castle dedicated to the prize-winning novelist Ismail Kadare.
Another literary-cultural highlight was an evening of music and poetry from the Val Resia in Italy. The Val Resia contains a small community of Slovenians, living in seven small towns, who speak an older form of the Slovenian language, almost as if Scots speakers had survived only in a limited string of Highland valleys.
